AE consists of a wide variety of graphic designers, writers, storyboard artists, artists, sound designers and composers who have an express interest in building their portfolio alongside other creatives in their free time. AE got its start many years ago as a small group of friends who were interested in learning creative software together. Over time the group grew and expanded into a gatekept online media collective which became so large, dissidents' splinter groups numbered in the tens of individuals, the most notable of these few groups being [[HollowWorks]]. AE got its name from its premise of being a new or alternative kind of media group, made up of what are basically students in their own fields. It also got its name from the fact that most of its members are neurodivergent, a fact that spawned the name "Autistic Entertainment" which is often used as either an insult or an inside joke by splinter groups and AE members. Due to the nature of the group mainly being comprised of inexperienced and learning creatives, most projects done by AE take a very long time and the vast majority of them do not see the light of day. The founders, AE-Main and AE-Scarecrow are very particular about which projects get attention and support as well, which can kill most projects before they get off the ground. === Membership === To become a member of AE, one must be invited by a present AE member, read and abide by all the AE guidelines, and commit a minimum investment of 30 hours into an active AE project. If they are approved, they are given the choice of a username to use as an AE member. This username must have the prefix "AE-", be fewer than an unreasonable amount of characters (<20), be all one word (e.g. Bad Dog must be shortened to BadDog), have no excessive symbols or numbers, and must not be a duplicate of a member already in AE. For special cases with high-ranking or very successful individuals, some of these rules may be broken to cater to them specifically, but no member has stooped that low as of writing. AE members can be pronounced or read as AE-(username), (username) or a shorthand of their username, although AE prefers if the prefix is used. A new member cannot start a new project within their first month, even if they meet the prerequisites of having 3 or more active members on the project and a stated goal or intriguing premise to start with. Some exceptions can be made if their goal or premise is exceptionally successful, but no ideas that intriguing have come forward to test these exceptions. === Members === (These members have been chosen to be featured publicly.
